U.S./ European Bed & Breakfast was founded in 1994 after combining the operations of several long established B&B businesses and has become the foremost B&B reservation service for the major European capitals. There are plans to expand into additional cities such as Prague, Budapest, Berlin etc.as demand grows for eastern Europe.

The principal at this organization is Tim Darbey who has been involved in the Bed & Breakfast field for over15 years and has visited 1000's of B&B's in Europe and the U.S.
As the owner of several B&B companies, he estimates that he has inspected or photographed a combined total of more than10,000 bedrooms, bathrooms, lounges and dining rooms!

This extensive experience led him to refine his criteria for what makes a desirable B&B regardless of it's price or location. "I've visited the most select, exclusive neighborhoods and been dismayed to find ugly and dilapidated properties owned by broke, yet still condescending aristos" says Darbey, who adds that he also has "been pleasantly suprised by wonderful homes and charming hosts in the most unlikely quarters, so I throw out any preconceptions when I visit new places, but not my standards".

He explains that he looks for warmth and authenticity, an interesting locale, convenient transportation, comfortable rooms, modern facilities, stylish decor and good conversation over breakfast with owners who know fascinating things about their city that you would never discover on your own. "It's this sense of discovery and delight in the unique quality of each home that makes B&B the special way to stay" is his opinion and that a B&B is always preferable to anonymous, cookie-cutter hotel rooms. Trade figures indicate that an increasing number of travelers agree with this point-of-view.

The select inventory available through this website are the best B&B's in each city that apply to join the register. Only about 40% make it through after inspection and approval by himself or his partners in each city, who he has trained to apply the same critical eye, standards and judgement when visiting prospective hosts.

The same applies to the hand picked agency staff who take your requests and answer any enquiries. All of the agents have lived, studied or worked in Europe and some of them have extensive knowledge of one or more of the cities being represented. So you can feel confident that you will be talking with someone who really knows their stuff!

….When you're talking $100 for a double room in a smart Paris B&B that occupies the same building as the Hotel Plaza Athenee, where the cheapest double costs $450, I know which I'd choose. At the very least, the $350 savings will pay for that little black number I saw in the Avenue Montaigne!
